BLACK IS THE NEW WHITE

There have been signs for some time now. Following the revival of colour in architecture and design, black ceramics are probably the most radical break with the white past. With the Memento collection, Villeroy & Boch is offering further exciting perspectives.

THERE WAS MORE WHITE IN THE PAST
When we think of bathroom ceramics, we inevitably think of glossy white surfaces. We are even prepared to attest that, by their very nature, they offer a high degree of cleanliness and, therefore, hygiene. This picture is currently changing for the second time. Although it was considered chic to design the bathroom, right down to the ceramics, in colour as an expression of a new joie de vivre back in the 60’s, following a revival of colourfulness, we have now arrived at black. What was only presented at most by avant-garde designers in their “daring” designs just a few years ago has long since reached the high-quality segment. Black ceramics are conquering the bathrooms of the world.

ELEGANT AND BLACK
Thanks to high-quality processes, we can now select surfaces for ceramics, such as the Memento series, from a wide range of colours. Apple’s design is not the only example that shows that black stands for exclusivity and thus creates a high level of desire. So it is only a matter of time before this trend reaches the mainstream. Consumers are now going so far as to choose black not only for things with a relatively short useful life, but also ceramics in the bathroom, which sometimes remain unchanged for more than 20 years. Consumer acceptance has fundamentally changed here. Black surfaces are now perceived as particularly elegant and valuable.

NEW POSSIBILITIES
Villeroy & Boch responded to this development years ago by providing planners with high-quality ceramics for their designs. Initially, there was a certain amount of scepticism surrounding the effort involved in maintenance, but these concerns have now vanished thanks to experience with the high quality of ceramic surfaces. More and more clients and builders are prepared to follow this new path in bathroom design. This opens up new design possibilities for designers and planners.

CUSTOMISED MEMENTO
In addition to monochrome solutions, Villeroy & Boch offers a wide range of decors for ceramic surfaces with Memento. A large selection of patterns and colours enables a wide range of products to be offered ex-works in order to creatively design a customer’s own personal spa. The ceramic specialist from Mettlach also offers individual decors for high-quality use in the commercial sector. More and more companies in the hotel sector, for example, see this as an opportunity to strengthen their market presence and give their guests the positive feeling of luxurious exclusivity.
